Coming from a 2013 WRX to a 2017 GTI with the PP, there really is no comparison. I ran both cars with Blizzaks in the winter, and the GTI isn't BAD, but it is nothing like an AWD car in the snow. Obviously braking in the snow is not what I am discussing here. I am talking about overall driveability in the snow.
I ran DWS06 in factory size and my GTI did fine. But our area has fairly good snow removal so that helps too. Up to about 2inches of snow the DWS06 does fine. 3inches and deeper snow tires would be a good idea.

In somewhat light ice and snow, my non-pp GTI has still been great even on the Pirelli P7's that came on it. Got quite the slippage going, but careful throttle movements limited the loss of traction. I'm actually amazed at how well mine did in winter conditions. Even so, I still wish I had the extra cash to get the limited-slip diff. Damn.

2007-03-13 · I know a guy with a 400+ hp vw GTi in chicago, and he manages to do just fine. and snow is more about driver skill than the car. A GTi will be fine though. A good set of snow tires would make it even better.
